Internet memes today are a very effective and common way for ideas and concepts to be spread through, facilitated by the internet. A lot of the time, though these concepts are inherent with fallacies, made up rumors, sometime even jokes. The article in question deals with the effects that memes can have on the portrayal of an entity, be it a person or even event. Nowadays, with the proliferation of social networking websites, it is even more common place to find memes. The rapid pace at which they spread is enhanced by these social networking sites. There is no logical basis at which the idea or concept spreads. It is has proposed that the principle reason as to why memes spread so quickly are a result of their ‘simplicity.’ If the meme is simple in nature, it will appeal to a broader public when compared to a complex one, which many might be reluctant to accept. Nowadays, media has the power to penetrate every faction of society. It is a very powerful tool that can be used to great advantages or misused, thereby shaping public perception.
